HISTORY The Bengal cat is a distinct, unique breed derived from crossing a domestic cat with the Asian Leopard Cat. The result is a domestic cat which displays the stunning beauty of the leopard cat. The Bengal cat's name comes from Felis Bengalensis, the Latin name for the Asian Leopard Cat. The first three generations of Bengal's that were bred down are domestic/leopard cat hybrids. They are the foundation generation, or Early Generation (EG); commonly referred to as F1, F2, and F3 Bengal's. The fourth generation and beyond are called Bengal's or "SBT" Bengal's. Bengal cats are a registered domestic breed, designed to look like the Asia Leopard, but with the loving disposition of a normal house cat. This is just the short version. To read and learn more you can visit the T.I.C.A. website www.tica.org or the International Bengal Cat Society at www.bengalcat.com
About The Bengal The Bengal cat is a medium to large cat, males weighing up to 15 + lbs. Females weigh less, around 10 to 12 lbs when fully grown. Bengal's have a very long muscular body; males more so than females. The Bengal cat has a soft, plush feeling coat; other wise known as a "pelt" with the look of glitter dust thrown on it. They can be spotted or marbled in pattern and come in a variety of different colors. You have your Brown Tabby, Snows, Silvers and some others that are not yet recognized by T.I.C.A.; The International Cat Association. You can read more about the Bengals at the T.I.C.A website: www.tica.org under Breeds. Or you can read about the Bengal breed at www.bengalcat.com
Bengal's are highly intelligent, easily trained, very interactive, and are very sociable cats; they enjoy being an active member of the family. They may not want to "sit" in your lap, but they will be with the family, or around their family when they are awake. It's been said that some Bengal's love the water, they may even jump in the tub with you...if your lucky enough! Bengals love to climb, and get into everything. Their curiosity is what drives the Bengal to interesting new heights and will keep you on your toes. You'll love to just sit back and watch these cats...they will keep you laughing and totally amazed! I actually read somewhere that Bengals are addicting, and I have come to the conclusion it is TRUE! These cats love to play, so the more cats you have the more fun you'll have watching and adoring these amazing creatures. They will win your heart and soul, and change your life!
